The company was founded in 1926 in Brussels, Belgium. This was a family business run by the Draps family. The family started off with a single shop opened in the Grand Place in Brussels. The start was slow and the business gradually grew and they went international in 1958, by opening a shop in Paris on the Rue Saint Honoré. The family was very eager to be called as a true global brand and they went to the U.S in 1966. The products were being sold at shopping centers and specialty stores. The company was bought by the Campbell Soup Company in 1967. The company did very well and kept on expanding its operations in different parts of the world. It was the end of 2007 when Campbell announced that the company will be sold to Yıldız Holding based in Istanbul, Turkey. This Turkish company was the owner of Ülker group and the largest consumer goods manufacturer in Turkey. The company has taken another leap of expansion and growth since the acquisition and has opened many stores and cafes in different parts of the world. The company is also a socially responsible player in the market with its membership of the World Cocoa Foundation and Cocoa Horizons Foundation. Godiva is also an active partner of Save the Children program and has also started The Lady Godiva Program. The company is also doing research and development and has started its Pierre Draps Chocolate Research & Development Centre in Brussels.
