Frequently Asked Questions
Does Medjet actually use coupon codes at checkout?
Rarely. Most of the savings come through partner and association rates that load automatically when you enter the site through a dedicated partner link, such as the MDVIP landing page, which applies the discount across every page of the site. That is why a code box can look empty even when a discount is available to you.
Which memberships and organisations get a reduced rate?
AARP members save up to 20% on Medjet memberships. Professional bodies negotiate their own rates too: ACEP members, for example, save 20% on an annual membership, while ACEC members start at $250 rather than the standard rate. University alumni associations frequently carry a reduced annual rate as well, so check every membership card you already hold before paying list price.
How does the referral discount work?
Each new member you refer earns you 10% off your own renewal, and referrals can add up to a full 100% off a one-year renewal. Credits do not carry over to the following year, the new member has to name you at the point of enrolment, and the discount cannot be applied to an online renewal, so you have to call membership services to redeem it.
Is it cheaper to enrol by phone or online?
For a standard annual or short-term membership, online is fine. Phone enrolment is necessary when you are redeeming referral credits, applying to the Diamond programme, or upgrading a domestic membership before an international trip, since none of those can be completed through the web form.a
Do multi-year memberships cost less per year?
Yes. Annual memberships are sold in one, two, three and five year terms, with the per-year cost falling as the term lengthens. The catch is age based: a multi-year term cannot run past your 75th birthday, so a 73 year old cannot buy a five year membership.
Can I get a refund if my trip falls through?
Medjet memberships are refundable up until the effective date shown on the membership, and the request has to be made before that date arrives. Once coverage begins the fee is not refundable, which makes the effective date you select during enrolment the single most important field on the form.
Is there a cheaper option if I only travel inside the US?
The Domestic membership covers members up to age 75 travelling more than 150 miles from home within the contiguous 48 states and costs less than the full annual membership. If an international trip comes up later, you can call Medjet before you leave and pay only the difference to upgrade rather than buying a second membership.
What are the options for students and faculty?
The Collegiate International membership runs for one full year and allows trips of up to 20 consecutive weeks outside your home country, and academic faculty qualify as well as students. Anyone staying abroad for an uninterrupted stretch longer than 140 days has to move to an Expatriate membership instead, sold in 180 and 365 day terms.
I am over 75. Can I still join?
The Diamond membership covers ages 75 to 84 for travellers in good health. It cannot be purchased online, requires a health questionnaire and a medical statement completed by your physician, and is limited to one medical transport per membership year rather than the standard allowance.
Is the motorcycle add-on worth it?
Motorcycle protection attaches to an existing membership for an additional annual fee per bike and provides up to $3,500 USD to return the motorcycle to your chosen shop or dealership. Note that standard MedjetAssist benefits do not exclude motorcycle riding in the first place, so this add-on buys transport for the machine, not for you.
