History
It was the year 2007 when Mariam Naficy, the founder of Minted thought of this idea to bring the artists from around the globe together and offer their products to customer. She wanted to do it through the crowd sourcing approach but was that a reliable and sustainable approach or will it fail the test of time and the fierce market competition. She had travelled a lot and knew about the skills and hidden talents of people from different parts of the world and she wanted to provide a platform to all these talented people to be able to showcase their products and the customers could get the best of the best designs at reasonable prices. She decided to go for it and the rest is history. The start was not easy and she has to put it a lot of her resources to keep the company going with a very lean team on board. With its first design challenge back in 2008, the company got 66 entries. In 2012, the company decided to include wall art prints and party décor in to its line of products. Not much of success found in the starting years, the company was able to attract a lot of investors in 2013. The company is backed by big names like IDG Ventures,Benchmark Capital, Technology Crossover Ventures,Menlo Ventures, and Norwest Venture Partners and has raised $90 million in capital. The company is name as one of 2014's 10 Most In-Demand Start-Ups among job seekers by LinkedIn. In the year 2015, the company also launched make-on-demand home decor. In the following year, the company opened Minted Local, a pop-up store in San Francisco’s Union Square shopping district.The store has a “Stylist Bar” that is providing access to a Minted expert by appointment, who help the customers in designing wedding stationery, birth announcements, holiday cards and more.
