Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the free version and the paid version?
The free version is licensed for personal, non-commercial home use and includes most core features, with some advanced tools reserved for a paid license. Business or professional use requires a paid license regardless of which features you touch. Downloading the free version confirms you are using it at home for personal purposes only.
What is the refund policy?
NCH Software offers a 30-day money back policy, requested through a refund form that asks for the purchase email, software name, purchase date and reason. One detail worth knowing before you buy: the license terms indicate a refund may not be granted unless you can show you tested the free version before purchasing, which makes trialling the software first a practical step rather than an optional one.
I bought through a reseller. Who handles my refund?
The reseller does. Check your invoice: an SP or SINV reference number means the invoice came from NCH Software directly, while an order ID or other reference number points to a reseller you need to contact yourself.
Does my license expire?
The serial number must be activated within 12 months of purchase. The codes generated at activation work on the software version released at the time of activation and never expire for that version. Keeping a backup of both the installer file and your registration code is worth doing, since a reinstall years later will need the matching version.
How does the upgrade policy work?
Your registration and activation code works on any fix or new version released within 6 months of the purchase date. After that window you are entitled to discounted upgrade pricing through the upgrade page, which asks for your old registration ID and key. This is the single biggest recurring saving for long term users, and it is easy to miss because the discount is not advertised as a promotion.
Are volume discounts available?
Yes, automatically on 5 or more licenses through the volume discount cart. The published table runs 10% for 5 to 9 licenses, 20% for 10 to 19, 30% for 20 to 49, 40% for 50 to 99 and 50% for 100 or more. These are applied after any special offer or promotion, and they cover product licenses only, not add-ons such as technical support or printed manuals.
I bought one program last week and want another. Can they be bundled?
No. Bundled pricing applies only when the products are purchased at the same time. If you expect to need two or three programs, buying them together in one transaction is worth more than spreading the purchases out.
Can I negotiate a better price?
No. The sales system is fully automated and pricing cannot be adjusted or varied for individual customers. If the price you see differs from what you saw earlier, an offer may have expired or you may previously have arrived through a link carrying special pricing.
Why does my statement show Australian dollars?
Prices are quoted in US dollars, but the company banks in Australia and the charge is converted to AUD on their server before reaching the bank, which then converts to your own currency. The server exchange rate updates weekly, so your statement amount can differ slightly from the quoted price, usually within about 1%.
Will sales tax be added?
For US customers, no, with the exception of Colorado residents where sales tax varies by ZIP code. Australian customers pay 10% GST. European rates vary by country, and customers elsewhere are not charged tax.
What payment methods are accepted?
Visa and Mastercard, PayPal, or payment by check. American Express is not accepted. With the check option, the license number is emailed once the check arrives, so factor in the delay if you need the software immediately.
Can I move the software to a new computer?
Yes, within reason, as long as it stops running on the old machine. Installation licenses require one serial number per computer, and installs are limited to 2 in any 12 month period as an anti-piracy measure.
Is there special pricing for schools, corporations or resellers?
There are separate academic, corporate and government procurement routes. Reseller pricing requires an established software business selling a reasonable volume, generally at least $1000 a month, and reseller accounts receive half the standard volume discount rate applied on top of their reseller discount.
