Frequently Asked Questions
Is a star naming through Star Registration scientifically official?
No commercial star registry, including Star Registration, has the authority to officially name a star in a way recognized by professional astronomers, since only the International Astronomical Union holds that role and does not sell star names. What you're buying is a symbolic keepsake, a certificate and star chart recording your chosen name in the company's own private registry, rather than a change to any scientific catalog.
What comes with a Star Registration gift package?
Packages typically include a personalized certificate, a gift set, and access to a mobile app that helps you locate your named star in the night sky. Higher tier options, like constellation or double-star packages, expand on this with additional certificates or star selections, and optional add-ons like frames or telescopes can be included for an extra cost.
Can I return a Star Registration gift if the recipient doesn't want it?
Because these gifts are personalized with a specific chosen name at the time of purchase, they typically fall into the same category as other custom or made-to-order gifts, which are generally not eligible for a standard return once the personalization has been applied. Checking the current return terms on the site before purchasing is worth doing if there's a chance the gift won't be used.
How long does it take to receive my Star Registration certificate?
Delivery timing can vary depending on the specific package and whether physical add-ons like framing are included, so checking the estimated delivery window at checkout for your specific order is the most reliable way to plan around a gifting deadline like a birthday or anniversary.
Does buying a more expensive Star Registration package get me more than just a bigger certificate?
Yes, higher tier packages generally include more than a single certificate, such as multiple star names for a constellation gift, additional keepsake materials, or premium add-ons like a telescope. Comparing what's actually included at each price point helps you decide whether the upgrade is worth it for your specific gifting occasion.
Is a star naming gift a good option for a significant milestone, like an anniversary or a birth?
Star naming gifts are commonly chosen for milestone occasions specifically because they're framed as a lasting, symbolic gesture rather than a consumable gift, which is part of why they remain popular for anniversaries, births, and other one-time celebrations despite not carrying formal scientific recognition.
