Frequently Asked Questions
How does free shipping work at Alibris?
Items eligible for free shipping display a truck icon on the product page, and once your cart with those items reaches $39, shipping is free. Items without that icon do not count toward the threshold and will carry their own shipping cost regardless of your total.
What is Alibris's return window?
You have 60 days from the shipment date to return a purchased item. If you return something after that window, Alibris states the item will be discarded and you will not receive a refund, so it pays not to let a return sit.
How do I actually submit a return to Alibris?
You start from your Order History, click into the specific order, then select Return This Item and complete the return form. Alibris then generates an authorization page and return label, both of which need to be included with your package or the return will be discarded without a refund.
How long does an Alibris refund take?
Once Alibris receives and processes your returned item, you can expect a refund in your original payment method within two to three weeks. That timeline starts after the item arrives back at Alibris, not from when you ship it.
Do I have to pay for return shipping at Alibris?
It depends on why you are returning the item. If you changed your mind or ordered by mistake, you may need seller approval first and could be responsible for return shipping, while items that were not as described are typically handled by Alibris directly.
Can I return an eBook purchased through Alibris?
Alibris does allow eBook returns within a limited window as long as most of the content has not been accessed, though individual publishers may apply stricter limits on top of that. Physical books, movies, and music follow the standard 60 day marketplace return policy instead.
How does the Alibris textbook rental return process work?
Rental textbooks come with their own Worry-Free Guarantee that lets you return a book shortly after your rental date if it turns out to be the wrong edition or otherwise unsuitable. When your full rental period ends, you print the free return shipping label tied to that specific book and drop it off before the rental period expires.
Can I combine an Alibris promo code with another discount?
No, only one coupon code can be used per order. If you have more than one code, compare your cart total against each one's minimum spend requirement and pick whichever gives you the larger discount rather than trying to apply both.
Do promo codes work on Alibris eBooks?
No, promotional codes generally apply only to physical titles and media, not eBooks. If you are shopping primarily for digital titles, check the specific offer's terms before assuming a sitewide code will apply.
Can I cancel an Alibris order after placing it?
Generally no. Because items are fulfilled by independent sellers who may ship within minutes of an order coming in, Alibris does not offer a standard cancellation window, so it is worth double checking your cart before completing checkout.
