Frequently Asked Questions
Does Appalachian Outdoors give a discount for joining its mailing list?
Yes. Signing up for the mailing list saves 10% on a first order and brings news about deals, new arrivals, exclusive offers, and local events. Treat it as a welcome offer for new subscribers.
Does Appalachian Outdoors offer free shipping?
Free ground shipping applies to orders over $49 within the contiguous US. The shipping page excludes oversized items, one site banner also excludes sale items, and skis and roof racks carry an extra shipping charge. The store does not ship to hotels or motels.
How fast does an Appalachian Outdoors order ship?
Orders typically ship the same or next day on weekdays, mostly by USPS, with UPS and FedEx used for some shipments.
What is the Appalachian Outdoors return policy?
Full priced items can be returned or exchanged within 30 days, and sale items must come back within two weeks. Items need their original tags and packaging and must be clean, unused, and free of stains, odors, rips, and tears. Include the return form from the back of your invoice, package the return carefully, and send it insured. Shipping charges are not refunded.
Can I exchange an item at Appalachian Outdoors?
Yes. The store will exchange a purchase for another item, size, or color, under the same condition and time rules as returns.
Can I return climbing gear to Appalachian Outdoors?
Climbing and load bearing equipment, including ropes, harnesses, helmets, and carabiners, cannot be returned or exchanged for safety reasons. Chalk bags and climbing shoes are the exceptions, and the store says it does not sell used climbing equipment.
Does Appalachian Outdoors rent or fit gear in person?
The site has a Rentals page and a Ski Shop page, and the store in downtown State College is open seven days a week. Check the Rentals page before buying gear you will use only once.
Do Appalachian Outdoors codes work on sale items?
The store does not publish a blanket coupon policy, so read the terms attached to each code. Its own free shipping offer carries exclusions, and outdoor brands commonly restrict discounting, so a code may leave out sale items or certain brands.
How often does Appalachian Outdoors release new deals and coupons?
The site has a Sale section for men, women, and kids, and its banner has advertised seasonal events such as a summer sale of up to 40% off. New subscribers receive the mailing list offer, and the list on this page changes as those sales start and end.
