Can I buy a single Preply lesson without a subscription?

No. Preply sells lessons through a recurring subscription only, and standalone one-time packs aren't offered, even through customer support. Your trial lesson is the one thing you book before subscribing.

How does a Preply refund work?

Preply may issue a refund if you cancel and haven't used any lessons from that billing cycle, and the request must come within 28 days of the charge. Each request is reviewed individually, and approved refunds go back to the original payment method, which can take up to 30 days to show on your statement.

Who qualifies for the Preply student discount?

Active university students with a valid university email address. High school students and anyone without a university email don't qualify. The discount only applies to monthly subscriptions, so it won't reduce your trial lesson.

Where do I enter a Preply promo code?

Enter it in the promo code field on the payment page when you pay for a trial lesson or subscription, before you confirm. The student discount needs no code and is tied to signing up through the student page. If a discount doesn't show in your total, contact support through the "?" icon.

Can I combine more than one Preply discount?

Preply doesn't state that offers can be combined, so don't count on stacking. The student discount applies to your first monthly subscription payment, and the referral discount applies to a friend's first lesson, so they cover different purchases.

Does my Preply subscription renew automatically?

Yes. It renews every 28 days from your first payment, charging your saved payment method. To stop the next charge, cancel at least one day before your billing date, since cancelling on the billing date itself doesn't stop it.

Saving Guide

Sign up through the student page first. The student discount is tied to registering with your university email on Preply's student page, then buying a first lesson and subscribing. If you create your account another way and book first, the discount may not apply. Support can fix it if you contact them.

Count on billing about 13 times a year. Preply bills every 28 days, not on the same date each month. Budget for roughly 13 payments a year rather than 12, and check your next renewal date under Settings, then Subscription.

Schedule lessons before the cycle ends. Lessons you haven't booked expire at the end of your 28-day cycle and can't be recovered. Book them all as soon as your plan renews so you get the full value of what you paid for.

Choose a plan you'll use, then top up. Plan lessons expire each cycle, but extra lessons carry over for up to two full billing cycles. A smaller plan with a top-up for busy weeks wastes fewer lessons than a larger plan you can't finish. Downgrades take effect from your next billing cycle, so make the change early.

Cancel and reschedule with the 12-hour rule in mind. A lesson cancelled 12 or more hours ahead returns to your balance, and one cancelled later doesn't. Inside that window, message your tutor. Tutors can reschedule a lesson within 12 hours if you both agree on a new time.

Shopping Guide:

Pick your trial length carefully. Trial lessons run 25 or 50 minutes, and you choose when you book. Once the trial is confirmed, the length can't be changed, even if you cancel and rebook.

Book trials with a few tutors. You get one trial per tutor, so you can compare teaching styles before subscribing. Tutors can accept or decline trial requests, and some require minimum notice, so request a few at once if your schedule is tight.

Match the tutor category to your goal. Preply lists specialized groups beyond general language tutors, including IELTS tutors, Business English, English for kids, and Spanish for high school students. Start there if you have an exam, a work need, or a young learner.

Check your level first. Preply offers a free English level test and a vocabulary test. Taking one before you message tutors helps you describe your level and goals accurately.
